  • Abstract in English: The book is interdisciplinary in nature and presents issues pertaining to psychological considerations (especially psychotherapy) and philosophical considerations (especially ethical issues). The research presented in the book was carried out within the framework of a qualitative research methodology. The method of understanding and recognizing values was based on the circular model of values developed by Schwartz (1992). A systematic review of literature relating to culturally sensitive CBT made it possible to establish a set of secondary data for the purpose of analysis. In total, 85 publications were analyzed. The results were subjected to qualitative content analysis (QCA, Schreier, 2012) using QDA Miner computer-assisted qualitative data analysis software. The results showed that the values most frequently found in the analyzed material were Universalism and Benevolence, followed by Tradition and Self-Direction, while the remaining values, Conformity, Stimulation, Achievement, and Security – in this order – occurred with low frequency. Hedonism and Power were not identified in the analyzed publications. The presentation of the research results is followed by a description of the topical areas where the given values were found in the analyzed material. The results showed that the values referred to as assistance values, whose main motivational goal is concern for the good of another person, were most frequently found in publications about culturally sensitive cognitive-behavior therapy. The book consists of five chapters. The first chapter, which is a theoretical review of the literature on the issue of values in psychotherapy, has been divided into four subchapters. The first subchapter consists of the following parts: (1): a first part, containing a discussion of the basic ethical principles of psychotherapy, with particular emphasis on the principle of the psychotherapist’s ideological neutrality and the value of charity and responsibility in psychotherapy; a second part, which presents the issue of the roles assumed by the psychotherapist in connection with the proposition that psychotherapy is first of all ethical in nature and that the therapist faces various problems and moral dilemmas. This part also presents issues relating to how the therapist deals with values in the therapeutic relationship and in the event of a conflict emerging between his values and the values of the patient. The second subchapter (2) describes issues relating to the goals, values and basic philosophical assumptions underlying cognitive-behavior therapy. The next subchapter (3) deals with the values and characteristics of a multicultural perspective in psychotherapy. The last subchapter (4) is an attempt to summarize the previously discussed issues by formulating the contemporary understanding of the principle of the psychotherapist’s ideological neutrality, with particular emphasis on the multicultural perspective. The second chapter of the book presents the basic methodological assumptions and methods of analyzing the results of the study. The research objective and the justification for undertaking research on values in culturally sensitive cognitive-behavior therapy are described. The theoretical framework of the research, the course of the research procedure and the methods of ensuring the credibility of the obtained results were also presented. The obtained results are discussed in the third chapter. The frequency of the occurrence of values within the analyzed material is presented. The subject areas in which the values are manifested in publications on culturally sensitive cognitive-behavior therapy are then presented. Each of the areas has a separate subsection, which comprises an attempt to describe the content characteristic of a given value along with selected quotes.
