  • Abstrakt: A consumerist discourse has become an integral part of the 21 st century. Consumerism permeates various areas of human life and affects everyday routines, tasks and duties. The aim of the paper is to present characteristic elements of consumer culture, which constitutes one of the dimensions of a contemporary upbringing environment, and to indicate challenges faced by the family in the process of upbringing and socialization of a child in the context of consumerism. In order to socialize children in a balanced way, it might be necessary to synergise several socializing agendas – parents, school, peers, mass media. Nowadays socializing takes place in the world of brands and results in an ability to function successfully in this world. Thus, it is necessary for young people, who live in the world of consumption products, to be able to control this world and function in it as agents, and not just passively accept it.
