  • Abstrakt:
    • W artykule przedstawiono argumenty za tezą o potrzebie kształtowania w procesie wychowania właściwie rozumianego patriotyzmu. Pojmowany jako postawa szacunku (co nie wyklucza krytycznej refleksji) dla wspólnoty, która nas wychowała, dla jej kultury i instytucji ją wspierających, patriotyzm jest korzystny tak dla rozwoju osobistego jednostki, jak i dla społeczności, w której ona uczestniczy. Wymaga to jednak uznania, że zaangażowanie w rozwój, trwanie i przyszłą pomyślność wspólnoty stanowi moralną powinność. Rozwój człowieka polega m.in. na uczestnictwie w kulturze i na twórczym jej kształtowaniu. Jest wysoce wątpliwe, czy w odniesieniu do kultury, której się nie lubi i nie szanuje, jest to w ogóle możliwe. Z kolei nie wydaje się także możliwe przetrwanie społeczeństwa bez zaangażowania jednostek w jego podtrzymywanie i rozwój. Zaangażowanie takie, jeśli ma być owocne, musi być zakorzenione w motywacji moralnej i opierać się na uznaniu własnej wspólnoty za wartość samą w sobie.
    • The article presents arguments supporting the need to cultivate a properly understood sense of patriotism in the process of education. Patriotism – conceived as an attitude of respect (which does not preclude critical reflection) toward the community that has raised us – as well as its culture and the institutions supporting it, benefits both the personal development of the individual and the community of which they are a part. However, this requires the recognition that commitment to the development, continuity, and future well-being of the community constitutes a moral obligation. Human development involves, among other things, participating in culture and shaping it creatively. It is highly doubtful whether this is even possible in relation to a culture that one neither likes nor respects. Likewise, it seems impossible for a society to survive without individual commitment to its sustenance and growth. Such engagement, if it is to be fruitful, must be rooted in moral motivation and be based on the recognition of one’s community as a value in itself.
