  • Abstrakt: THE HARMFULNESS OF CYBERBULLYING AS SEEN BY YOUTH Studies on cyberbullying have significant place in the research field on contemporary threats among the youth. User’s anonymity, diffusion of responsibility and modeling aggressive behaviors are the key characteristics of cyberbullying. Data indicate negative consequences of being a victim of cyber violence in adolescents. However, research on the youths attitudes towards cyberbullying is in a minority. The aim of the study was to discover the beliefs and opinions of ythe outh on the harmfulness of cyberbullying. A double–perspective survey was used to measure cyberbullying. Besides this, gender differences were considered one of the analyzed variables. Being laughed by other Internet users was seen as the most painful by the adolescents who took part in the study. This effect occurred in both male and female groups of respondents. The explanation for the harmfulness of cyberbullying mentioned most often was the psychological damage and social rejection experienced by the victims of cyber violence. The study makes it possible to perceive electronic violence among the youth from the perspective of their attitudes towards it. What’s more, exploratory nature of the current study allows indicating further directions as well as recommendations for further research expanding the issue of cyberbullying.
