  • Abstrakt: Stein’s Theory of Empathy in the Light of Neurobiology Research Findings “Needless to say, I have no outer perception of the pain. […] The pain is not a thing and is not given to me as a thing, even when I am aware of it ≪in≫ the pained countenance”. Stein’s theory of empathy is an attempt to find out the nature of „the given” of an another person’s experience. A discussion concerns the approach of such theorists like Th. Lipps, M. Scheler or A. Meinong. The outcomes of Stein’s analysis may and should be taken into account with the findings of neuroscience, especially in regard to the nature of emotions and feelings carried out by researchers such as A. Damasio and collaborators.
