  • Abstrakt: The Role of Leadership in Contemporary Organizations as a Challenge in the 21st Century Managers of contemporary organizations are increasingly looking for new instruments that will allow them to manage their resources much better and achieve their goals. One is leadership. The aim of this paper is to identify the role of leadership in managing the organization as one of the major challenges of the 21 st century. Based on the numerous sources and research results that the authors refer to in their reflections, they are convinced that the issue of leadership in the organization is very up to date and the challenges of developing leadership competencies among managers are constantly increasing. The first part of the paper explains the concept of leadership considered by different authors and its importance for the proper functioning of the organization. The determinants influencing leadership, and in particular the role of leadership, in the human resource management process, were defined. The next section describes what competences should be held by the leader in contemporary organizations. The last part of the paper highlights the new challenges (such as talent management, diversity management) faced by leaders in the management of people.
