  • Abstrakt: The activity of the National Culture Fund ( Fundusz Kultury Narodowej) in exile between 1939 and 1947 The National Culture Fund (NCF) operated in exile in the period between 1939 and 1947. It fulfilled a significant role in financially supporting scientists and all the people who dealt with culture and art both within the country and abroad. One of the forms of this support was sending food and clothing parcels to scholars and writers in the occupied homeland as well as providing Polish intellectuals in Great Britain, the Middle East (evacuated from the Soviet Union) and the USA with financial benefits. The NCF played an important role in preserving the Polish culture in exile. It also prevented the young generation of Poles from losing their sense of national identity and enabled them to study at universities. Moreover, the NCF provided financial help to several Polish departments at British universities, subsidized scientific and social societies and endorsed publishing activities. It focused on promoting the Polish language and culture among representatives of other nationalities and communities. It spared no effort to collect books for libraries in the independent homeland. The Fund constituted an important link preserving the Polish science and culture in exile.
