  • Abstrakt w j. angielskim: The literature on the relationship between Sigmund Freud and Ludwig Wittgenstein is extensive and mostly suggests that Wittgenstein’s attitude to Freudian psychoanalysis was ambiguous and involved both criticism and considerable respect (inasmuch as he regarded his own philosophy as a kind of therapy). Our goal in this paper is to explore Wittgenstein’s approach to Freud in a rather novel way, by examining how far his criticism was justified. In the first part, we Begin with an analysis of Wittgenstein’s concept of language-games: their diversity and their relation to practice and mythology. Then, starting from the Interpretation of dreams proposed by Freud, we address two points raised in Wittgenstein’s commentary. The first concerns Freud’s conception of dream-work and his associative method of dream interpretation, which he construed as “the royal road” to knowledge of the unconscious activities of the mind, while the second deals with Wittgenstein’s remarks on one of Freud’s examples of dream interpretation, and the latter’s understanding of dream interpretation as a scientific method. Our conclusion is that Wittgenstein’s criticism of these notions mostly reflect his selective knowledge of the role of language in Freudian psychoanalysis. Meanwhile, the meeting point between Wittgenstein and Freud is located on the Wittgensteinian ground of family resemblances between language-games.
