  • Abstrakt:
    • Przedmiot niniejszego artykułu stanowi rozumienie piękna i sztuki w ujęciu Josepha Ratzingera – Benedykta XVI oraz ich znaczenia dla kultury z perspektywy kulturoznawczej. Sztukę współczesną Ratzinger diagnozuje jako pełną: nihilizmu, pluralizmu, uniwersalizmu, banalność oraz braku odwołania do sfery duchowej i wartości. Wnioski teologa są logiczną konsekwencją jego pojmowania sztuki oraz roli artysty w kulturze. Te dwie wartości mają za zadanie nie tylko dostarczać estetycznych i pozytywnych wrażeń, ale także odsyłać do prawdy – czyli do Boga – oraz refleksji nad rzeczywistością. Sztuka jest ściśle związana z rozwojem człowieka oraz wspólnoty, dlatego ma tak istotne znaczenie dla całej kultury. Podstawę do analizy myśli Ratzingera nad sztuką stanowią jego dzieła: Sakrament i misterium, teologia liturgii oraz Duch liturgii.
    • the subject of this article is art and beauty as understood by Joseph ratzinger - benedict XVi. the idea is to describe how a theologian understands art and what it means for culture from the standpoint of cultural studies. ratzinger’s diagnosis of contemporary art points to its nihilism, pluralism, universalism, banality and lack of reference to the spiritual sphere and to values. certainly, art historians, critics, and artists themselves could argue with this opinion. however, the conclusion of benedict XVi is a logical consequence of his understanding of art and the role of the artist in culture, because for him this must be the outcome of tradition, thoroughly thought-out and related to beauty. the task of these two values is not only to provide aesthetic and positive impressions, but also to refer to truth - that is to God - and to reflection on reality. Art is closely related to human and community development, which is why it is so important for the entire culture. this analysis of ratzinger’s thought on art is is based on the following of his works: The Theology of the Liturgy, Sacrament and Mystery, and The Spirit of the Liturgy.
