  • Abstrakt w j. angielskim: The chapter explores contemporary reiterations of the druid myth from the perspective of semantic field research. Three areas—or mythologems—form the subject of analysis. First, the proto-myth of the druid, deriving from Classical sources, is described. The chapter moves on to the exploration of contemporary mythical ideas. The vision of “who a druid-should-be” within contemporary Druidry is addressed through examples of the two main Druidic organisations: the Order of Bards, Ovates, and Druids (the UK) and Ár nDraíocht Féin (the United States). Current pop-cultural images of druids found in (more or less) mainstream content—movies, series, or games—are the third field to be studied. Finally, it presents a comparative analysis of those respective portraits utilising semantic field analysis, adapted from Régine Robin’s approach. The chapter discusses the following issues: to what extent is the current image of the druids (in)coherent with the core mythologem? How is the druid’s image adapted for the needs of contemporary druids? Are there similarities or differences between the pop-cultural image of druids and the imaginaries of the movement’s sympathisers, and is there feedback between those fields? And last, but not least, how (and which) chosen mythical threads are intertwined to form the portrait of the druid observed by receivers of the contemporary cultural landscape?
