  • Abstrakt w j. angielskim: (Para)Medical Dimension of Old Polish Preaching The article is devoted to health related topics (in terms of physical and spiritual health) which appear in sermons and the other religious discourses in the old ages. In former preaching, we can encounter numerous analogies between the role played in the human life by Christ, immediately followed by the priest, and the role of a doctor taking care of his patients. It is kind of a religious symbiosis between doctors and priests. So preacher’s works served prevention, diagnosis and treatment of all minor and major sins, which, in opinion of religious people, were the causes of body and soul diseases, especially in the time of epidemic. Therefore, every preacher was to take medical care of his worshippers, because soul and body are inextricably linked. Religious works described various examples of diseases, their causes, symptoms and particular treatments. Such (para)medical counselling (like „spiritual medicine” or „moral condom”) included especially dangerous epidemics, like the miasma.
