  • Abstrakt w j. angielskim: The study of medieval Lithuania, particularly the emergence and development of its elites, is a topic rich in historical complexity. This subject is particularly challenging due to the scarcity and contentious nature of the limited narrative sources that have survived to the present day. Authentic documents from Lithuania's pre-state period are entirely absent, and only a limited collection of records from the reigns of Mindaugas to Gediminas sheds a dim light on the evolution of Baltic elites during the process of state formation. Most of the available information is derived from chronicles produced in neighbouring regions, including those of the Teutonic Order, a historical adversary of Lithuania. While later sources provide a broader spectrum of information, they must be treated with considerable caution due to potential biases and inaccuracies.
