  • Abstract in English: The author of the article presents the extraordinary biography of Simona Kossak, a zoology professor, daughter of Jerzy Kossak, granddaughter of Wojciech and great-granddaughter of Juliusz Kossak. The complicated atmosphere of her family home created a person who showed no signs of emotion, but rather lived in her own world. Her interesting and difficult history is marked by the struggle to find her own place in life. The turning point for her is the trip to Białowieża, where she began her professional life. As she claimed later, “it was the best thing I could do in my entire life”. Despite treating this place as “temporary”, she spent her whole life there, experiencing a transformation of her own identity. It was there that she actively shaped her life and her biography shows a transformation from being an “externally controllable” subject (low resistance to external pressures and manipulative techniques) to an “internally controllable” person (activity, own system of values and own code of conduct).
